Atletico add to Sevilla’s pain with a win at Sevilla

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Atletico Madrid got goals from Alvaro Morata and Marcos Llorente to beat Sevilla 2-0 in the Spanish league on Saturday, adding more pressure on beleaguered coach Julen Lopetegui.

Frustrated Sevilla fans have booed their team for another poor performance as the club sold expensive center backs Jules Conde and Diego Carlos this summer without replacing them.

Lopetegui’s side, who finished fourth last season to qualify for the Champions League, have just one win in nine games in all competitions. Defeat to Atletico left them in 16th place and just one point above the relegation zone.

Laurent opened the scoring in the 29th minute when the midfielder received a pass from Koke Resurrection at the top of the area and fired from an angle under goalkeeper Yassin Buono.

Morata Portugal won Bono chipped in for the second goal in the 57th as Spain entered the Nations League final this week. Sevilla’s defense was partly to blame as it failed to stop Morata and strike partner Cunha winning a long goal kick by Jan Oblak.

Atlético, who moved up to fifth, squandered clear chances to add a third goal.

“Sevilla is a winning club, expectations are always high, and our fans are not happy, that’s normal,” Buono said of the loud cheer his team received at full-time.

“The only thing we can do is turn it around as soon as possible.”

Sergio Leone scored twice to lead Valladolid to a 3-2 win at Getafe that was saved by goalkeeper Jordi Masip when he saved a late penalty from Ines Anal.

Villarreal were held 0-0 in Cadiz and after a good start to the season, Unai Emery’s side’s unbeaten run was extended to three straight.

Later, Barcelona visit Mallorca who trail leaders Real Madrid by two points.
