NEW YORK, Switzerland (AP) — Two Real Madrid teammates made the three-man shortlist announced Friday for last season’s UEFA Player of the Year award, while no Liverpool players were included. .

Champions League winners Madrid were represented by Karim Benzema, who scored a competition-best 15 goals, and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was excellent in the 1-0 win over Liverpool in the final.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who plays alongside Courtois for Belgium, completed the list after voting by coaches and selected journalists.

In the coaches award, Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti is on the shortlist along with Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Man City’s Pep Guardiola.

The winners will be announced in the draw for this season’s Champions League group stage in Istanbul on August 25.

No player has ever won the UEFA award, which was first awarded to Lionel Messi in 2011. Last year’s winner was Jorginho when he helped Italy and Chelsea to European titles.

UEFA said voting for the women’s awards is ongoing and the shortlist should be announced next week.
