Canadian star Alphonso Davies has returned to training with Bayern Munich after a head injury

MUNICH – Canadian star Alphonso Davies, who was helped off the field last weekend after taking a boot to the head, returned to training with Bayern Munich on Friday.

While Friday was officially a day off from training, Bayern said Davies, Matthijs de Ligt, Serge Gnabry – who all missed Bayern’s 4-2 Champions League win over Czech Republic Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday – And goalkeeper Johannes Schenk trained with head coach Julian Nagelsmann, assistant coach. Dino Topm├╝ller and head of fitness Holger Bruch.

Davies was diagnosed with a “cranial injury” when he took the boot to the face in Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund last Saturday.

The 21-year-old from Edmonton was injured in a 45th-minute challenge on Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham at Signal Idona Park. The English midfielder used his body to shield the ball from Davies, flicking the ball into the air with his right foot, finding and deflecting it past the Bayern full-back.

Davies got his head first to the ball and Bellingham’s foot connected with the Canadian’s face, not the ball. Davis fell to the ground again, clutching his face.

He received treatment and appeared unsteady as he was helped off the field for half an hour in the evening. He saw no further action.

Dortmund tied the game 2-2 after Bayern scored 2-0 in the 74th and 95th minutes.

Third-placed Bayern, who have not given a timetable for Davies’ return to action, host second-placed Freiburg at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.
