Lille bounced back from hammering PSG with a win at Ajaccio

AJACCIO, Corsica (AP) — Lille shrugged off its disappointment at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain with a 3-1 win over promoted Ajaccio in the French league on Friday.

However, Lille, who were humiliated 7-1 by defending champions PSG last week, again showed frailty in defense when Cyril Biala headed in a late consolation for Ajaccio.

Turkey midfielder Yusuf Yaziki opened the scoring with a stunning volley in the 17th, when Ajaccio’s defense failed to clear a cross. Yaziki caught the ball with his left boot and lifted it above his head before crossing to shoot from outside the penalty area.

Brazil defender Ismaili set up Jonathan Bamba for the visitors’ second goal shortly before half-time, and Thiago Jalo effectively ended the home side’s hopes with Lille’s third in the 67th.

Biala boosted a late charge from the home side when he scored in the 84th after Lille missed several chances to clear the danger following a corner.

Canadian forward Jonathan David missed a chance to score Lille’s third goal of the season when he hit the post with a penalty in the 90th.

But Lille – the 2021 champions – already had enough for their second win of the season, leaving Ajaccio with just one point from four games.
