MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty Tuesday of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman.

The verdict was handed down by a judge-led jury at Chester Crown Court in north-west England.

Mindy’s co-accused, Luis Saha Mathuri, was also cleared of two counts of rape and one count of rape against the same woman after the prosecution failed to present any further evidence against the accused on those four counts.

Judge Stephen Everett warned jurors not to speculate as to why the prosecution decided not to pursue a guilty verdict on related charges and to proceed with the “loyalty” trial the defendants still face.

The sexual assault charge was dropped against Mindy in connection with an alleged incident at his home on July 24.

Mandy still faces seven counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault against six young women.

Prosecutors claimed Mindy was a predator who “turned the pursuit of women for sex into a game.”

Mathuri, Mindy’s friend, is accused of finding young women for Mindy to have sex with.

Mathuri denies six counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual assault of seven young women.

Both men say that if any sex took place with women or girls, it was consensual.
