Messi will miss PSG’s game against Lorient as a precaution

PARIS (AP) — Lionel Messi has some inflammation in his Achilles tendon and will be rested as a precaution for Sunday’s trip to Paris Saint-Germain Laurent.

PSG said on Saturday that the Argentina star, who will win the World Cup for the first time in his illustrious career, is expected to resume training next week.

PSG then have one more game, at home to Aix-en-Provence next Sunday, before Messi leaves for Qatar.

Argentina’s World Cup opener is against Group C rivals Saudi Arabia on November 22. Argentina then face Mexico and Poland.

Messi, 35, has been in superb form for league leaders PSG this season, scoring seven league goals to go along with a league-high 10 assists. The record seven-time Ballon d’Or winner also has four goals and four assists in the Champions League.

Messi has scored nine goals in the last three games for Argentina, including five against Estonia at the end of last season. He holds the national record for Argentina with 90 goals, including eight hat-tricks.

PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe also has a minor Achilles tendon problem and is rested for Llorente. He hopes to play in central defense for defending champions France at the World Cup.
