Morocco is counting on Boufal and Ziyech for goals at the World Cup

Youssef N-Nesri’s goal drought has sharpened the focus of others on scoring for Morocco at the World Cup in Qatar.

N-Neisseri has not scored for Sevilla in the Spanish league, after scoring 18 league goals two seasons ago.

N-Nesri has considerable experience with 49 international caps and 14 goals, including a header against Spain at the 2018 World Cup. His ability to prevent opposing defenders from passing the ball cleanly makes him a valuable asset as well.

But he doesn’t score, while Sofiane is baffled.

At 29, Boufl is entering his senior year and four of his five international goals have come this year. He has also scored three goals in 10 games for Ingersoll in the French league this season.

He has long been a talent, albeit a controversial one.

Five years ago, Bouffel scored a stunning goal for Southampton, crossing from deep inside their own half and past five players. He won the 2017_18 Premier League Season Award.

While Boufl is returning to form, Hakim Ziyech is returning from exile by former Morocco coach Wahid Halil Hodzik _ who left the Chelsea winger in a row over his refusal to play in a friendly.

A player who refuses to train, who refuses to play, who feigns injury, for me the story is over," Halilhodzic said on Croatian TV channel Nova TV in April. “The national team is sacred.”

Despite guiding the Eighteen Lions to the tournament, Hillel Hudzik was fired in August. Morocco’s football federation said it was due to a disagreement over the squad’s preparation for the World Cup, where Morocco have a tough draw in Group F. The team will face 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia on November 23 before taking on Belgium in the 2018 semi-finals. And then Canada.

Morocco replaced Halil Hudzik with 47-year-old Moroccan Waleed Regargui, who has 45 international caps as a right-back. Last season, Regargui led Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca to the league and CAF Champions League titles.

Regargui immediately recalled Ziyech – who was so unhappy under disciplinarian Halil Hodzic that he even announced his international retirement – for the 2-0 win over Chile and the 0-0 draw against Paraguay in the warm-up last month.

Against the Chileans, Regargou offered a glimpse of how his side could go either side of nerve-wracking N-Nessiri against Croatia by selecting Ziyech on the right and Buffle on the left.

It worked. Boufl scored, as did Abdelhamid Sabri, a regular goalscorer with Sampdoria in Italy, who scored his first international goal.

Once nicknamed “The Magician” by Ajax fans, Ziyech still has a point to prove after flopping at the last World Cup in Russia. He punched the air when missing an easy chance in their 1-0 defeat to Iran in their tournament opener.

Ziyech and Bofl should get more scoring chances if Asif Hakimi is on form. The Paris Saint-Germain right-back is one of the best attackers in world football and has pace, skill, good passing and an eye for shooting with eight goals in 53 appearances for Morocco.

Belhinda dialect

Regaragui’s attacking mentality means talented midfielder Younes Belhanda, who plays for Turkish club Adana Demirspor, is pushing for a World Cup place after being recalled.

Belhanda brings valuable experience with the 55 national team. He won the league title with Montpellier in 2012, where he was a key provider for French striker Olivier Giroud. So Belhanda’s brilliant passing might help N Nesri rediscover his scoring touch.

Defense problems

Left-back Adam Massena is missing after tearing a ligament in his right knee during Italy’s match with Udinese. West Ham centre-half Nayef Aguirre picked up a knee injury during the season but he could be ready in time for Qatar.

World Cup experience

Morocco, who played in the 6th World Cup for the first time in 1970, became the first African team to reach the knockout stage in 1986.

A remarkable performance saw the Atlas Lions finish ahead of England, Portugal and Poland before being beaten 1-0 by West Germany in the round of 16.
