Nottingham Forest shocked Liverpool, going pointless on the road

NOTTINGHAM, England – Nottingham Forest produced a surprise to beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The last-placed team earlier in the day picked up just their second win of the season during the game at City’s ground.

Tayo Ooni scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute to end Liverpool’s mini-resurgence, which saw them beat Rangers, Manchester City and West Ham in their last three games.

Oweni has been on the books at Anfield for six years, without ever playing for the first team, but he produced the decisive moment to lift Forest off the foot of the table.

The win eases pressure on Forest manager Steve Cooper, who also coached at Liverpool.

Forest took the lead 10 minutes into the second half when a free kick found Steve Cook on the right. His cross was headed against the post by Ryan Yates, but Oni was on hand to turn it into an empty net.

Morgan Gibbs-Waite then saw another effort blocked by James Miller, which would have doubled the home side’s lead.

Liverpool’s counter-attack saw Forest goalkeeper Dan Henderson lose Trent Alexander-Arnold’s header in the final 10 minutes.

In turn, Alisson denied Yates late on before Henderson parried a powerful header from Virgil van Dijk to secure a famous victory.
