LONDON (AP) – Cristiano Ronaldo was charged by the Football Association on Friday in connection with an incident in which the Manchester United forward apparently snatched a phone from an Everton fan during a Premier League match in April. ate
Ronaldo’s behavior is inappropriate and/or violent, the agency said.
Ronaldo received a police caution in August after being interviewed by officers over assault and criminal damage following an incident at Goodison Park on April 9.
Footage was released online of Ronaldo apparently walking down the tunnel after United’s 1-0 loss, knocking a supporter’s mobile phone to the ground.
Under British law, a caution is basically a warning given by the police for a minor offense if the person admits the offence.
After the incident, Ronaldo apologized on social media for his “outrage” and invited supporters to watch the match at Old Trafford “as a symbol of fair play and sportsmanship.”
