Serie A round-up: Allegri, Inzaghi under pressure after defeat to Juventus, Inter

MILAN – Two of Serie A’s top coaches are already feeling the pressure after Sunday’s shock defeats to Juventus and Inter Milan.

Promoted Monza probably didn’t expect their first ever Serie A win to come against Juventus but managed to beat Massimiliano Allegri’s side 1-0. Juventus played a lot with 10 men after Angel Di Maria’s red card.

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter side were beaten 3-1 at Adinese earlier for their third defeat of the season.

AC Milan later played Napoli on Sunday. Both sides head into the weekend with Atalanta at the top of the table, playing at Roma.

Allegri was already under pressure After Juventus lost their second straight game in the Champions League midweek. It was unbeaten in Serie A but had won just two of its first six games.

The Bianconeri were probably hoping for an easy game at Monza, which was fruitless and conceded 14 goals in six games.

However, Juventus barely had a sight of goal and their chances of securing a morale-boosting victory were dashed when Di Maria was needlessly sent off in the 40th minute for a hard tackle on Monza defender Armando Izzo’s chest.

And the home fans went wild in the 74th when Patrik Severia whipped in a cross from the right and Kristen Lund played in Gitkejer at the near post.

Monza is owned by former AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi.

Udinese continued his stunning start to the season and went top of the table – at least for a few hours – with his fifth straight win.

In the fifth minute, Niccolò Barella scored a wonderful free-kick to give Inter a good start, but Udinese leveled in the 22nd minute when Roberto Pereira’s free-kick was deflected into Milan’s own goal.

Udinese made sure of the points at the break before Xhaka Bijul headed in a corner on three minutes and Tolgay Arslan made sure of the points with a diving header.

Also, Lazio won 4-0 at Cremona and Fiorentina beat Hellas Verona 2-0.
