Stuttgart are still winless after a draw in Cologne

BERLIN (AP) — Stuttgart’s lackluster start to the Bundesliga season continued as it drew 0-0 in Cologne on Sunday despite playing most of the second half with 10 men.

Stuttgart forward Luca Pfeiffer was sent off in the 56th minute for a brilliant tackle on Timo Hubers. American coach Pellegrino Materazzo, who was furious at his player’s dismissal, was also later sent to the stands following two yellow cards.

It was Cologne’s third straight draw after opening the season with a win over Schalke. Stuttgart have three draws and one loss from their first four games.

Eintracht Frankfurt are still looking for their first win. It was played at Werder Bremen later on Sunday.

Stuttgart dominated from the start in Cologne and Silas had two golden chances. He saw one denied by a volley from Marvin Schwab and the goalkeeper managed to get a leg to clear the second after being sent one-on-one by a delightful ball from Chris Fuerich. .

However, it required a goal-line clearance from Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavrpanos to prevent Julian Chabot’s header from giving Cologne the lead on the stroke of half-time.

And Stuttgart’s good work seemed to be on the cards when Pfeiffer was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Habers 11 minutes after the restart. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Stuttgart continued to create chances.

Stuttgart goalkeeper Florian Müller was given little to play all game, but he proved invaluable with a brilliant save to keep out Jan Thielmann’s 20-yard scamper in stoppage time.
