The Canadian men added a warm-up game against Bahrain ahead of the Qatar World Cup

Canada has finalized its plans ahead of the World Cup, adding practice games and a camp in Bahrain ahead of next month’s soccer showpiece in Qatar.

The Canadians, ranked 41st in the world, will face No. 85 Bahrain in Manama on Nov. 11 before taking on No. 24 Japan in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Nov. 17. A pre-arranged match will be played.

The Bahrain game, which will be played at Al Khalifa Stadium, will be Canada’s final international test before the full squad is assembled when FIFA’s international window opens for the World Cup.

Canada has never played Bahrain before. Bahrain failed to get out of the second round of Asian World Cup qualifying, finishing third in the group behind Iran and Iraq with a 4-1-3 record.

Bahrain is coached by former Portuguese international Helio Sousa.

Team Canada will assemble in Manama, starting with players from off-season leagues like Major League Soccer, whose games end on Nov. 5.

Players for the World Cup must be released by November 14. The 32-team tournament runs from November 20 to December 18.

“Bahrain has kindly agreed to host us, which provides the team with the opportunity to both adapt to Middle Eastern conditions and give a number of players important minutes at international intensity ahead of the final roster selection for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. get it.” Canada coach John Herdman said in a statement Thursday.

Canada opens World Cup group stage play against No. 2 Belgium on Nov. 23 and faces No. 12 Croatia on Nov. 27 and No. 22 Morocco on Dec. 1.

The Canadians finished atop CONCACAF’s qualifying final round robin, compiling an impressive 14-2-4 record in three rounds en route to Qatar.

This is the Canadian men’s first trip to the World Cup since 1986.
