Tuchel handed a one-match ban, Conte fined for derby brawl

LONDON – Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been fined £35,000 and given a one-match touchline ban for his altercation with Tottenham rival Antonio Conte after Sunday’s Premier League derby.

Conte was fined £15,000 but avoided a touchline ban after both managers admitted misconduct during the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel’s touchline ban has been temporarily suspended although the full written reasons for the decision remain – allowing the Chelsea manager to take his place in the dugout for Sunday’s Premier League game at Leeds.

The managers, who were already at loggerheads over the technicality of Sunday’s game, began pushing and shoving after the final whistle when the traditional handshake broke down. Touchell and Conte were both shown red cards.

Tuchel could still find himself in trouble for his inflammatory comments about the referee after the match.

He referred to Anthony Taylor in his post-match press conference, saying “maybe it would be better” if Taylor no longer officiated games, including for Chelsea.
